Multisensory instruction is really important for children, so be creative and have fun! Visual, auditory and kinesthetic feedback work together to get the word into your child’s long term memory. Some of my favorite sight word activities include rainbow writing, using rice, sand, sandpaper or screens for sensory feedback, “writing” with shaving cream, arm tapping, and air writing. As a teacher, I always included a few sight words with my children’s weekly spelling words, but made sure they knew that they were different than the spelling concept we were working on that week.
